1. Introduction

This report gathers important bibliographic references related to IM2.MDM, and provides access to several types of information: references, hyperlinks, EndNote format, BibTeX format. The list is, of course, by no means exclusive. In particular, it does not contain important references to work produced in the 1970s and 1980s, which should be quoted for historic reasons in introductions to computational dialogue studies.

2. Data formatting

The master file is an EndNote database (mdm-biblio.enl), available to the project members upon request. See http://www.endnote.com/ for information about this widely used commercial software.

Conversion to/from the BibTeX format, used by some project members, is also implemented. Conversion from BibTeX to Refer format was done using freely available software (by Alf Christian Achilles) provided at: ftp://src.doc.ic.ac.uk/computing/bibliographies/Karlsruhe/Bib.Format.html or also, for instance, ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/authors/W.B.Langdon/biblio/tools/README.html . This set of Perl scripts triggered by the bibtex2refer command worked nicely in our case. The only exception was that braces '{' and '}' were left in the authors names in the Refer file, and they had to be removed manually. Note that the BibTeX files must have been previously filtered through bibclean command available at ftp://ftp.math.utah.edu/pub/tex/bib/.

Another conversion script with, in theory, the same function, did not manage correctly the URLs, and important feature of our database. Or maybe we failed to use it properly. This script is located at: http://clwww.essex.ac.uk/search/software/code/bibtex2refer .

Once the BibTeX file converted to Refer, it can be imported into EndNote. Using the "EndNote import" option rather than the explicit Refer/BibX seems to provide better results. Here, databases from the authors were merged, while discarding duplicates, correcting entries, etc. Keywords were added when not available from the authors.

To produce the present report, a list of themes was defined and the formatted output of EndNote was distributed among the various sections. Of course, the selection of themes is not completely devoid of arbitrariness, and they have overlapping aspects. It is therefore best to scan the whole bibliography when looking for references on a given domain.

The results are:

·         the present document in PDF, HTML and Word format (Word available on request): mdm-biblio.pdf, mdm-biblio.html, mdm-biblio.doc.

·         the EndNote database (available to project members on request): mdm-biblio.enl.

·         the BibTeX output (available to project members on request): mdm-biblio.bib.

Comments, requests and additions should be sent to andrei.popescu-belis_at_issco.unige.ch .

3. Bibliography

The keywords used in the EndNote/BibTeX databases are: important; theory; empirical; system; evaluation; statistical; logical; segmentation; reference; speech; tagging; annotation/data; summarization; multimodal; "connecteurs" (discourse markers).
